Matahari Canggu welcomes you to a place where children learn life skills, interpersonal and social development, and build the building blocks of early academia.
Life at Matahari
A vibrant, nature-rich environment where children explore, create and grow — every single day. From flower dissections to group outdoor play, every moment is a chance to discover something new.
Matahari Philosophy
Matahari Canggu values two key elements in learning: a child's autonomy and adult guidance. We believe children thrive when free play is paired with active, thoughtful engagement.
Children direct their own choices in a prepared environment — experimenting with new materials, testing ideas, and designing their own creative roles and activities.
Guided-play always sees the child as an active collaborator. Teachers may gently intervene in activities that young children find engaging and motivating, providing scaffolding to boost language, development and learning.
During play, children develop caring friendships with peers and trusting relationships with adults. These shared collaborations become a secure foundation for healthy choices throughout life.
Our teachers' role is active, although not dictatorial. In a guided-play situation, a teacher might initiate the play context but does not direct it. Rather, the teacher follows the child's lead and allows the child to engage in discovery within a prepared environment and with subtle scaffolding.
This approach allows children the maximum amount of freedom, while ensuring that with the teacher's gentle guidance they will achieve learning goals.
Matahari Curriculum
We believe that play is fun, flexible, voluntary and intrinsically motivated. It involves attentive engagement and often incorporates make-believe.
The Matahari curriculum provides education that offers children an opportunity to experience learning within a safe and protected space — with uninterrupted time and freedom to imagine, create, practice blossoming skills and discover new interests.
Matahari Programs
From babies to school-ready children, each class is carefully designed to meet children exactly where they are and help them flourish.

Created to promote and encourage children to develop in all areas — physical, emotional, social, intellectual, fine movement, hearing and speech. By doing this on a regular basis, it develops into group play and achieves the aim of good child interaction skills.
We also aspire to develop a good bond between teachers and children through talking, singing and playing — helping the child feel settled and ready for their transition to "Sunshine" class.
A natural progression from Little Stars, incorporating a range of age-appropriate activities including circle time, playground, arts, crafts, music, gardening, block play, and the beginnings of phonics, maths and literature.
The aim of this group is to develop children towards a level of literacy and maths to transition to Rainbow group, while also helping them gain maturity and emotional awareness appropriate for their age.
A wide range of activities including arts, crafts, music, gardening, science, drama, physical activities in the playground, block play, free-play and of course learning of basic academics.
Matahari Families
Matahari is not just a centre for your children — it is a community. We organise many events not just for the children, but for the whole family. The families are what make Matahari so special.
It is wonderful to see as we all come together as a family and help each other — and also have some fun!
